Nothing ruins a perfectly good driving day behind the wheel of a lovely new 2017 Hyundai Elantra or 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe quite like the unexpected blip of a warning light on the dashboard. While Hyundai vehicles are known for their reliability, any heavily used car will need maintenance ore repair at some point. The trick to making sure issues get handled properly, however, is knowing what those lights mean.

The following are some of our most-often confused warning lights in new Hyundai cars and SUVs, for those that may appreciate the quick education:
  • ESC – This acronym is short for "electronic stability control," which is something that helps keep your vehicle on the road around big turns or in slippery conditions. The little car icon with the winding tracks behind it means your car is doing exactly what it’s supposed to.
  • ABS – Similarly, when you see the letters ABS inside of a circle, it means your car is doing its job by initiating antilock brakes in slick driving conditions. You will feel it rumble when it’s working, and the light means all is as it should be, not that something is amiss.
  • Malfunction Indicator – The icon that looks like an engine means that something very well could be wrong with your vehicle, and you should make every attempt to get your vehicle to the dealership as quickly as possible.
  • Immobilizer Indicator – The car icon with the key in the middle means your key isn’t functioning correctly. The car may be okay, the key may not be.

There are, of course, many other indicator lights, but most of them will be familiar to experienced drivers. If anything comes up where you need to take your vehicle into our service department here at Hall Hyundai Elizabeth City, don’t hesitate to reach out so we can get your Hyundai vehicle back in great working condition!
